Electric arc furnace is also called submerged arc furnace. It can be divided into DC electric arc furnace and AC electric arc furnace. DC electric arc furnace refers to the electric arc furnace that uses direct current as energy. The same as AC arc furnace, DC electric arc furnace uses the arc generated between the electrode and the furnace charge (or molten pool) to heat, so as to achieve the purpose of melting. It can be used to smelt steel or alloys and non-ferrous metals. DC electric arc furnace has many advantages compared with AC electric arc furnace, which is simply divided into the following categories:
DC arc furnace arc is stable and relatively concentrated, molten pool mixing is particularly good. The temperature in the furnace is relatively well distributed, and the furnace lining corrosion is small.
The current and voltage fluctuation of DC arc furnace is extremely small, and the impact on the power grid is less, and the life of the cable is therefore extended.
DC arc furnace electrode loss is low. The consumption of graphite electrode is reduced by more than 50%-60%, saving electricity consumption of 5%-10% and refractory material of 30%-35%.
